June 23, 1968

They forgot to give us breakfast early in this flea trap so we all leave for Earls Count Station.  (The tube again with the out of order elevator down).  After first having our breakfast at only place we can find at 8:00 am - Wimpys!  It’s O.K. though and off we go at our London at Peace tour.

Guide is a man with a pretty good way of explaining things.  Find out even more things.  Captain Bligh’s burial place, Petticoat Lane (the flea market) , the dogs place see the puppies, the new London that will some day emerge, more info at Tower.  - seems to be a fire there - 4 engines came by.  Go to see the changing of the guards again but too crowded for us so we decided to leave tour.  Tell driver - and start walking down mall.  Who should we see but George - superior guide from last year.  Stop and say hello.  He says he remembers us after the first surprise.  Maybe he does vaguely.  Introduce him to the boys and compliment him again.  I think he was pleased.

We walk on St. James park and over to Piccadilly.  Have lunch at some Lyons corner house.  It’s not like supper though, it’s self-serve and real like family done.

Afterwards we get cabby and go to Madame Tussaud’s, Tom Dave and I That is.  Ray walks instead as he didn’t feel like crowds.  Enjoyed it again and boys did too.

We then take cabby to Imperial War Museum - very well done this.  Then we take cabby to National museum.  Split up to meet at 6:00.  Oh how wonderful!  All the masters have some works here.  Also the impressionists I’ve been so eager to see - Renoir, Monet, Goya, Degas, Turner, Constable, Rembrandt etc. etc. etc.

Afterwards as we go eat we see a demonstration at Trafalagar.  St. Martans in The Fields bells keep ringing in our ears.  All in all a great sight and scene.

Go to Carmandy St.  Have corned beef sandwiches and cakes and tea there.  Walk towards Piccadilly on Regent St.  Shopping looks great here and I intend to come back here Tuesday.  Get cab and go home.  It’s early but must get up early for our last SS tour.  Also this day has been busy and tremendously full.  Our feet hurt!
